How to Choose the Best Place to Stay

With so many incredible options available, narrowing down your perfect accommodation can feel like a daunting task. Here are a few tips to help simplify the process:

1. Consider Your Budget

Before deciding on the type of accommodation, set a rough budget for your trip. If you’re looking to save, guest houses and vacation rentals with kitchens (to avoid eating out) can help stretch your travel dollars. On the other hand, if you’re celebrating a special occasion, splurging on a luxury vacation rental or waterfront cabin might be worth it.

2. Think About Proximity to Attractions

Are you planning to explore Kenai Fjords National Park, enjoy glacier cruises, or fish in Resurrection Bay? Staying close to the Small Boat Harbor or downtown Seward will save you commuting time and expenses. If hiking and tranquility are more your focus, lodgings on the outskirts of town or near forested trails may be better options.

3. Define Your Group Needs

Traveling solo, as a couple, or with a group? For larger groups, vacation rentals or multi-bedroom guest houses provide ample living spaces with areas for gathering. Couples and solo travelers might prefer cozier settings like bed-and-breakfasts or smaller cabins to maximize privacy and charm.

4. Set Your Experience Priorities

Is a stunning ocean view or mountain backdrop on your wishlist? Are you more interested in homely comforts, or do you crave something unique and luxurious? Deciding on the feel of your stay will help direct you toward specific types of accommodations.

5. Read Reviews and Research

Once you’ve narrowed down your choices, check reviews from recent guests. This will give you a better idea of the quality of the stay, the accuracy of the listing, and any additional perks or drawbacks to be aware of.

Popular Areas to Stay in Seward

1. Near the Small Boat Harbor

This area is a hub for marine tours, fishing charters, and glacier cruises. Lodging here keeps you in the heart of Seward’s adventure scene, with easy access to restaurants and shops.

2. Historical Downtown Seward

A charming area filled with local boutiques, museums, and the Alaska SeaLife Center. It’s ideal for those who enjoy exploring on foot.

3. Outskirts and Scenic Spots

Look for properties near Exit Glacier Road or nestled against the forested base of the Chugach Mountains. These spots offer serene settings and proximity to hiking trails.
