Our 77th Reported Accident -6/8/05 Corner
Milford Pt. Rd/ Naugatuck Ave. |
The Developer's "Traffic Generation
Report" states that there will be
an additional 150-200 Vehicular Trips Per Day
generated with this development! Can this area handle this?
This
is a 1.4 acre parcel. The proposal is for four buildings, 2 stories and 41
bedrooms. There is NO space there. Where will guests of the owners
park? Children living there will be "walkers" to the area schools, how
will they safely cross a busy intersection several times a day? There have more
than 75 REPORTED traffic accidents at that block in the past 5 years.
Naugatuck Ave. is a busy street, it is the main evacuation route for all beach
properties, there are two catering facilities located there, WE DEMAND A TRAFFIC
AND SAFETY STUDY. The handicap units are located in the rear of the
development, we question the ability for emergency vehicles to have access, what
happens if there is a fire there, how will those people be evacuated? There
are questions as to the viability of that dump site being excavated
and developed. We have environmental reports with evidence that
there are high levels of lead contamination. This
property, the site of a former pond (see map link from the City of Milford's
own web site), was filled in years ago with construction debris and other
garbage. Excavation of that
site will endanger the entire neighborhood.
Where will any children play living on that small parcel- in the lead
contaminated dirt? This parcel is the site of a former pond and inland
wet-land. The Planning and Zoning Board has not been able to define
"block street frontage" and the map that the developer presented is
inaccurate. There was no specifications as to order in which the
affordable units would be built nor how they would be sold (as per the
recommendations of the Blue Ribbon Commission.)
The first item on our agenda is that we will stop this
application. The proposal, as presented, creates a Safety and
Health Hazard. We expect the ELECTED OFFICIALS TO SUPPORT AND
PROTECT US.
Our second item
is that we will fight to have the PZ Board allow Special
Permits in ANY Zone in Town- it is only fair. And/Or change the CDD Zone
in Devon.
Thirdly we will fight this 8-30g Statute at
the State level. It is unfair and contains too many loop
holes. We will be joining other "grass root" organizations
throughout the State and we demand that this Statute be changed.
Please see the SOSA web site, this group in Stratford has been fighting
Avalon Bay for five years! Our hat's off to those dedicated people!
The resident's have spoken! There was a handful of volunteers
that "took the bull by the horn" and worked tirelessly to get the word
out, and it worked. Thank you to them, and to the 200+ neighbors
who were able to take the time to attend the meeting and to the 1000+
that signed our petitions. We will use this page as a forum
and information page to get the latest information out to the
public.
If you can offer some
knowledge, expertise, can volunteer, would be a "block captain" for your
street, or would be willing to help contribute to our defense fund,
please
contact us. This is NOT a commitment at this point however we need
to see what kind of support we have.
